Volunteer fire department delivers gifts, holiday cheer to local kids

Written by: What’s Up Prince William

Santa made a few pit stops in Prince William County this past weekend.

The Dale City Volunteer Fire Department (DCVFD) held its annual Christmas Day Santa Ride on Sunday.

Through the program, presents were delivered to children in Dale City, Dumfries and Woodbridge who are too ill to visit public places, such as the mall.

Nicole Dietrich’s daughter, Naomi Hylton, is one of seven kids who received a visit from Santa and DCVFD members.

“It was surreal that the volunteer fire department from Dale City contacted us and is actually bringing Santa out here today so my daughter gets a chance to be with Santa,” Dietrich said. “It’s a blessing. It’s been a pleasure working with Amy Shalawylo, and I can’t say ‘Thanks’ enough for this moment.”

The annual Christmas Day Santa Ride was supported by organizations and individuals.

“Thank you everyone who sponsored kids and helped in any way, because you are awesome,” Shalawylo, the Santa Visit Coordinator, wrote in an email. “Your generosity to our community and these families has an impact that will run deep.”
