The National Weather Service has issued a Winter Storm Warning for Prince William County, with forecasts calling for significant snowfall, hazardous travel conditions, and dangerously low temperatures this weekend.
In preparation for the storm and its potential impacts, Governor Spanberger has declared a State of Emergency, allowing state and local agencies to mobilize resources and respond quickly as conditions worsen. Residents are strongly urged to stay off the roads from Saturday night through at least Monday
Below, we are sharing important information and resources from Prince William County and partner agencies
VDOT Winter Storm & Road Conditions Update
VDOT crews have already begun pre-treating interstates, primary roads, high-volume secondary roads, bridges, ramps, and overpasses, with preparations continuing through Friday afternoon. Beginning Saturday morning, crews will operate on 12-hour shifts with 24/7 coverage and will coordinate closely with schools, utilities, and other partners.
In Northern Virginia, including Prince William County, VDOT plans to deploy more than 3,200 pieces of equipment. Interstates and primary roads will remain the top priority. Due to the size of the storm, it may take several days before crews are able to make an initial pass through all neighborhood roads. Residents may see plows redirected as conditions require.
VDOT has enhanced its snowplow tracker at plows.vdot.virginia.gov, which will allow residents to view recent plow activity during significant snowfall even
For road concerns, the public is encouraged to contact VDOT’s 24/7 call center at 1-800-FOR-ROAD or through www.vdot.virginia.gov. VDOT will continue sharing updates through its website, email alerts, and social media channels.

Emergency Services & When to Call for Help
During severe weather, response times may be impacted due to road conditions. Taking a moment to determine the urgency of a situation helps ensure emergency resources remain available for those who need them most.
In the event of an emergency, please call 911 immediately. For non-urgent situations related to winter weather, residents are encouraged to use appropriate non-emergency or county service channels.
