WOODBRIDGE, VA – On Dump the Pump Day on Friday, June 17, OmniRide wants residents to ditch the car and enjoy a cost-savings, stress-free, and safe commute on an OmniRide bus.
OmniRide will join public transportation systems across the country in marking the 17th annual national Dump the Pump Day. On that day, residents are encouraged to ride public transportation instead of driving a car. Dump the Pump was started by the American Public Transportation Association (APTA) in June 2006 to promote transit as an alternative to high gas prices.
Now that regional gas prices are currently in the $5 per gallon range, public transportation provides an opportunity to avoid spending money at the gas pump and instead use money for groceries, paying off bills, entertainment, or a summer vacation. Public transit also saves residents the frustration of sitting in traffic. Northern Virginia and the Washington, D.C. region is one of the most congested areas in the country, and with many residents returning to the office, traffic has returned to pre-pandemic levels and then some. Instead of a stressful commute, residents can use that time to relax and arrive to their destinations ready to take on the day.
OmniRide has provided mobility services for Northern Virginia for over three decades. This includes Local bus service in Prince William County, Manassas and Manassas Park; Express service for commuters between Prince William County and employment centers in Northern Virginia and Washington, D.C.; and Metro Express which connects riders with Metro Stations. OmniRide also offers assistance to carpoolers and vanpoolers and coordinates a variety of employer services.
