OWL has been selected from many entries across Virginia to receive the 2021 Governor’s Fire Service Award for Outstanding Volunteer Fire Department Response. This was as result of a call last July involving several OWL units where critical quick decisions were made, outside the box, which resulted in the saving of 3 lives (and one cat).
This award was presented Tuesday 2/23/2022 at the Virginia Fire Rescue Conference in Virginia Beach. The photo is of OWL Chief Wayne Haight accepting the award from Virginia Secretary of Public Safety Robert Mosier, interestingly Secretary Mosier previously was a member of OWL.
