The Prince William Board of County Supervisors voted unanimously on Tuesday, July 21, 2020, to pass a resolution to provide $5 million of its federal CARES Act funding to Prince William County Public Schools. With return to school dates approaching, school officials requested emergency assistance funding from the Board of County Supervisors to acquire computer devices for high school students to facilitate distance learning.  To safely mitigate the risk of the COVID-19 pandemic, the school division asked the Board of County Supervisors for increased funding. The Prince William Board of County Supervisors received $41 million of Coronavirus Relief Funds through the federal CARES Act. In this time of crisis with the pandemic and to help ensure student safety, the Board agreed to support the School Division’s emergency request.  

“Supporting the education system is a vital necessity for the community. We look forward to working with the Prince William County Public School System to help meet their emergency needs during this pandemic. The safety of all residents is of the utmost importance,” said Prince William County Board of County Supervisors, Chair-At-Large, Ann Wheeler. 

Currently, the Board of Supervisors has allocated CARES Act funding for emergency housing for homeless services, COVID-19 testing, rent and housing assistance, the Department of Social Services assistance programs, business recovery microgrants, community feeding taskforce, and PPE.
