Construction on the interchange project is moving forward, and with it will come some temporary traffic changes to support the next phase of work. Beginning in July 2026 through August 2027, certain left-turn movements at the intersection will be restricted as crews construct the new underpass.
To help keep traffic flowing, clearly marked detour routes will guide drivers around the work zone using nearby connections like Route 294, Route 640, and temporary roadways. Through traffic on both Prince William Parkway and Minnieville Road will continue, but residents should expect adjusted travel patterns, additional signals, and some delays while this work is underway.
Recommendations for Commuters & Residents
As work moves forward on the Quartz District and the Prince William Parkway & Minnieville Road Interchange Project, residents should expect periodic construction activity and shifting traffic conditions throughout the area.
Construction is expected to begin in April 2026, with completion targeted for mid-2028, and will include a temporary detour road connecting Elm Farm Road, Prince William Parkway, and Minnieville Road during construction.
Plan Extra Travel Time:
Drivers may experience lane shifts, slower traffic, and occasional detours during peak hours. Commuters should plan to leave earlier when traveling through Minnieville Road, Prince William Parkway, or surrounding corridors.
Use Alternate Routes When Possible:
To avoid congestion during construction phases, consider alternate routes such as Smoketown Road for east–west travel, Dale Boulevard for access to the Parkway, or Spriggs Road and Benita Fitzgerald Drive depending on your destination.
Pay Close Attention to Signage:
Temporary traffic patterns will be clearly marked, but conditions may change frequently. Follow electronic message boards, obey posted construction speed limits, and watch for workers and equipment.
Expect Occasional Night Work:
Some work may take place overnight to reduce daytime delays. Residents living near the project area should expect intermittent noise, construction lighting, and temporary changes in traffic flow during these hours.
