About this event
Join Supervisors Kenny Boddye (Occoquan) & Victor S. Angry (Neabsco) as they invite panelists and community members to discuss the future of their districts’ shared transportation corridors. The panel includes representatives from DRPT and the County’s Planning and Transportation teams, who will review findings from the year-long Springfield to Quantico Enhanced Public Transportation Feasibility Study.
For the study, the Department of Rail & Public Transportation (DRPT) evaluated Metrorail, VRE improvements, bus rapid transit (BRT), and express bus, against five metrics:
- Ridership potential
- Congestion mitigation
- Regional accessibility/connectivity
- Equity
- Cost-effectiveness
Overall, Metrorail and BRT performed best on ridership, but each has its pros and cons when measured against the study goals. The results also reinforce that land use, placemaking, economic development, quality of life, and mobility are all inextricably linked and that the time to plan for coming growth is now. DRPT is accepting public comment on the Executive Summary through Nov. 17.
