Keep Prince William Beautiful Using App To Track Litter

Keep Prince William Beautiful Trash App

Local litter has increased lately.

A rise in the use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) and items for to-go meals as well as a decrease in trash and recycling pick-up have contributed to it.

Keep Prince William Beautiful (KPWB), an environmental non-profit, is addressing the litter increase by partnering with the University of Georgia’s Marine Debris Litter Tracker App.

Through the app, the public is able to geotag litter they find and describe the materials, according to a release from KPWB.

KPWB is going to use the information to determine where litter can be found and cleanups are needed.

“We love this litter tracking app.  It allows our community members to act as Citizen Scientists by helping keep track of where litter is accumulating in Prince William County,” KPWB Executive Director Aleta Daniels wrote in an email to What’s Up Prince William.  Not only does this app allow us to track litter data locally, we are also adding to the national litter database, helping solve the litter problem on a larger scale.”

The “Marine Debris Tracker App” is available for iPhones and Androids. After downloading it, users can make a profile and choose Keep Prince William Beautiful as the tracking list.
